Frequently Asked Questions
Q Do I need to be a resident of Maine to submit an entry?
No, the competition is open to all. Entrants located in any state or country are welcome to enter.
Q Is there a limit to the number of team members?
No, all interested individuals, artists, designers, architects, illustrators, engineers, including teams from multiple disciplines may form teams. One person will be designated as the team leader.
Q How will the winning designs be transferred to the Sprague tank farm?
The winner will not physically paint the tanks or supply the paint for the project. Industrial painters will paint the tanks according to the specific winning design.
Q Do I submit my 4 JPG entries when I register?
Yes, you must submit your 4 JPG entries when you register. Entrants register by clicking the "Send Your Submission," link. Fill out the entrant registration form, then upload your 4 JPG entries online through a secure server.
Q How many tanks will be painted?
There are more than 35 tanks, but only 16 of the tanks will be painted. 8 entire tanks (tops and sidewalls) will be painted along with the tops of 8 additional tanks within the Sprague tank farm. Although the initial stage of the competition does not involve submitting designs for all 16 of the tanks to be painted, entrants should be aware of the fact that the separate tanks will need to work together as an aesthetic whole.
Q Why is there a specific color palette? Why are some colors restricted from use?
Certain technical restrictions apply when using industrial paints for tanks. Entrants may use up to 6 colors per tank selected from the color chart provided. Colors may not be mixed. In addition, there are 9 colors that singly or collectively, may be used on no more than 25% of the entire design surface of each tank.
